How to Present Case Studies in Exams

  • First of all, read the given case carefully. At least you should read it twice.
  • Once, this is done, try to recall any similar stuff you have recently studied & frame a conclusion in your mind.
  • Before you put your pen at work, draft an answer in your mind.
  • You can also write key words at a side in rough, with pencil, to help you easily recall the answer.
  • The way you may present your answer can be as follows:
  • First you can write the name of the Act or the corresponding section number. You should quote the section numbers only if you are 100% sure about them. This is so because quoting the wrong section numbers might result into deduction of marks.
  • Then you can state the facts of the case in a summary form. Make sure you don’t waste time in copying the entire question. You can just write the most important part of the question & directly move towards the answer.
  • After this, comes the main body of the answer. That is, analysis of the question in comparison with the provisions of the law. Here, you need to apply the required provisions of the law in the context of the question & frame a judgement. You can make calculations in this part if required by the question. All the details required by the question can be given in this part of your answer.
  • If you can give your analysis in points or under bullet markings, this will improve your presentation & also help the evaluator to easily understand your views.
  • After this, you can write a conclusion. Writing a conclusion is not necessary as it is mostly covered in the later part of your analysis, still you must write the same so that evaluator can have a brief look on it, instead of going through your analysis again and again. Also, a conclusion will add effect to your answer.
  • This, according to the writer, is the best way to present case studies.
  • In a nut shell, you can present it as follows:
  • Name of the Act & Section Number : (Section No. only if you are sure!)
  • Facts of the case: (Just 2-3 important points of the question which are to be discussed in the analysis.)
  • Analysis: (Apply the provisions of the act with regards to the question. This involves detailed analysis, calculations, etc. This happens to be the most important part of your answer.)
  • Conclusion: (Just a one line sentence to explain what will be the conclusion of the case.)
